With a relaxed pace of life and more than 120 beautiful beaches to choose from,Fuerteventura offers plenty of opportunities to unwind – but adventure also awaits too.
From wild windsurfing tournaments to luscious national parks and epic cycling in the mountains, you can kick back and chill, or discover a world of excitement.
Make a splash
Fuerteventura is ideal for those in search of aquatic adventure. Blessed with lively waves and winds from the Atlantic Ocean, the island’s conditions are perfect for windsurfing.
Experienced windsurfers flock to Punta Blanca Beach to perfect their skills every year. Flag Beach and Glass Beach on the north-east coast are two of the other fairly exposed beaches, and better for beginners wanting to give windsurfing a try.
For those who prefer to get their water thrills away from the natural elements, Acua Water Park is the perfect place to make a splash. Just half an hour’s drive from the airport, it’s ideal for a fun-filled family day out. From the adrenaline-rush of the Kamikaze slide and whirlpools to daredevil diving, it can be an action-packed day. Those wanting to catch their breath can enjoy a much slower pace floating along the lazy river.
Reach Volcanic heights
The island’s remarkable volcanic landscape makeshikinginFuerteventura a must. Calderon Hondo offers superb vantage points for those looking to get out and stretch their legs. You can drive right up to the base in your hire car and follow the trail and stone markers to reach the top within one hour – a perfect way to gaze out over the landscape, and build up an appetite for lunch.
More experienced climbers will love the challenge of tackling the steeper Gairía Volcano. If the pride of making it to the top doesn’t make it worth it, the panoramic views certainly will. Park up in the nearby village of Tiscamanita, where you’ll be able to reward yourself with an ice-cold beverage and something to eat after your climb.
See a desert spectacle
Fuerteventura is home to another striking sight: a huge expanse of Sahara-style sand dunes.
The unique Corralejo Sand Dunes feature a vast stretch of white beaches and sand formations. Juxtaposed against the rugged, red landscape of the mountains, the scenery here is both barren and beautiful at once, and it is no wonder that the area enjoys protected natural park status.
Corralejo Town is beautiful itself. Previously a sleepy fishing village, it has charming uneven streets, fresh seafood served daily and a delightful harbour. The more popular parts of the area are a few streets back from the beach, where the authentic Fuerteventura aesthetic of old is still very much alive.
With car hire at Fuerteventura Airport, you can explore all the island’s top attractions at your leisure – taking in everything from breathtaking beaches to astonishing natural landmarks, and aquatic delights.
