The island might have a worldwide reputation for its energetic nightlife and shimmering beaches, but with car hire at Ibiza Airport you’ll be able to explore so much more.
Ibiza’s lively resorts are complemented by quiet coves and fascinating natural landmarks. Here are just a few recommendations.
Old Town highlights
One of the unmissable locations in Ibiza is Dalt Vila, the upper town. This incredible maze of cobbled streets is packed with historic buildings and monuments.
Built atop a hill overlooking the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean, it boasts stunning views over the island’s coastline. On a clear day, you can gaze upon the neighbouring island of Formentera across the water.
Highlights of any visit include the Centre d’Interpretació Madina Yabisa, a fascinating recreation of the original Islamic city that stood on the site, before Catalan forces arrived in the 13th century.
For art lovers meanwhile, a trip to the Museu Puget gallery is a must. Housed in a historic mansion, it boasts numerous works by father-and-son duo Narcis Puget Viñas and Narcis Puget Riquer.
Beautiful beaches
One of the best things about Ibiza is the sheer array of its beaches. You really are spoilt for choice.
For snorkelling, head to Cala Conta or Aguas Blancas, where you can see colourful marine life below the surface of the clear, calm waters.
One of the best spots for watersports is Playa d’en Bossa, which boasts everything from jet skis to catamaran hire.
This resort is also famous for its nightlife. But, if you’re not planning to stay out late, you can enjoy a relaxing lunch in one the many restaurants and beach bars or simply chill on the Balinese beach beds.
Off the beaten track
Some of the island’s quieter beaches can be found away from the popular southeast coast. Cala Salada, just a 6km drive from San Antonio, is a sandy cove surrounded by shady pine trees and boasts calm, shallow waters that are ideal for swimming.
The cave of Ses Fontanelles, home to prehistoric paintings discovered in the early 20th century, is around an 8-minute drive away from here.
You won’t see the paintings themselves, as the cave is not open to the public, but replicas are visible on the site. Plus, you can enjoy spectacular views over the west coast, including the picturesque San Antonio Bay.
If you want a break from the hot sun, head for Puerto San Miguel on the north coast of the island. This small resort is home to the caves of Can Marca, once used by smugglers and now a popular tourist attraction. Take a guided tour to admire the ancient mineral formations and soak in the scenery from the openings carved into the rocks.
With car hire at Ibiza Airport, these are just some of the attractions within easy reach during your stay.
