A steady pace of life and flair for the great outdoors characterise this sweet spot in Somerset. With many incredible attractions close by too, hire a car here to make the most of your trip.
Seaside fun at the Grand Pier
The proud home of one of England’s longest beaches, Weston-super-Mare serves up the classic English seaside experience – and it’s one that needs to be indulged in.
Tuck into fresh fish and chips on the promenade, devour a delicious ‘99’ from the ice cream stalls and while away an afternoon gazing out at the waves. This is traditional family fun at its best.
Take a stroll along the reconstructed Grand Pier to breathe in the fresh sea air. After the original 1904 pier was destroyed in a fire in 2008, the new Grand Pier was built, bringing with it a host of modern attractions and rides to the town.
Dare to venture into the ghoulish ghost train, take the kids for a spin on the dodgems or experience the thrills of a fast-paced ride on one of the simulators.
Rediscover Nature
If you love nature or fancy a change of view from the seaside, then Bleadon Levels Nature Reserve makes for the perfect day out.
Home to expansive freshwater lagoons, acres of grassland and an amazing array of wildlife. Here you’ll be able to spot otters, brown hares, ducks, owls, skylarks and more.
Birdwatching lovers will delight in the variety of different birds which make this site their home, with two hides making for idyllic quiet watching spots. The one on the lagoon’s Southside has wheelchair access, with the north side feeder slightly more challenging to reach.
Walk around the reserve and keep your eyes peeled for creatures great and small, with many mammals happily making the site their home – including rabbits, voles and even some elusive otters. Parking is available within certain hours, accessed from Wayacre Drove.
Be amazed by Cheddar Gorge

There’s so much to see and do here, from adrenaline-fuelled abseiling adventures in the caves, to surveying the stunning surrounding landscape from the cliff tops.
